Ed Perkes, Executive Director
Ed has strong roots in beautiful Cache Valley, but when he joined the Legacy Retirement Residence team, he and his wife Autumn decided to move their family closer to the Salt Lake Valley. Ed received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Weber State University and then received his State Teaching License in special education from Utah State University. Beginning in 2007 and prior to joining the South Jordan team, Ed served at our sister-community, Legacy House of Logan. Ed and his wife spend their free time with their four children; taking them skiing and driving them to their various activities.
Leilani Palmer, Marketing Director
Leilani has been employed in the senior-care industry for 15+ years. Prior to becoming the Marketing Director at Legacy Retirement Residence of South Jordan, she worked in a similar capacity at our sister-community in Logan. Leilani believes that a leader should lead by example and should be as eager to help with everyday small tasks as they are with large, complex tasks. Leilani is thrilled to be a member of the Legacy family and looks forward to being a part of it for many years to come. She enjoys running, vacationing and spending time with her family.
Shar Gygi, Administrative Assistant
I was born and raised in Sandy, UT. I graduated 8th in my class and was an Art Sterling Scholar which lead me to attend the U of U and receive a degree in Graphic Design. From there I launched my marketing career of 12 plus years. After which I retired from that profession to stay at home with my children. My favorite past time with my children would be attending our annual Lake Powell trip and boating on weekends in the summer. I was drawn back to the work force when my youngest was able to attend school where I was an office manager for a local construction company in Salt Lake City. When I saw an opportunity to work at Legacy, I was thrilled! My grandmother lives here, and we have had a great experience. I really enjoy getting to know current residents, new residents and helping in any way I can.
Jennifer Thornton, Resident Services Director
Jennifer has been a part of the Legacy family for many years. The one thing that she enjoys most about her job is spending time getting to know our residents. One of her favorite quotes is, "The shortest distance between two people is a smile." Jennifer not only believes this is true but practices it daily. Jennifer has been blessed with amazing children and enjoys spending as much time with them as possible. Some of her hobbies include baking, decorating cakes, reading, painting and crafts.
Tara Bencosme, Recreation Director
Tara loves working with the residents at Legacy Retirement Residence. She has a Masters degree in recreation management with a minor in gerontology from BYU. Tara was instrumental in starting the Huntsman Senior Games in the 1980s. She has been the Recreation Director at Legacy Retirement Residence of South Jordan since 1998. During this time, Tara has been co-chairman of the Salt Lake Valley Recreation Association for many years. She believes that everyone feels better and thinks better when he or she is up and moving. She loves coming to work and "moving" with the residents. Away from work, Tara enjoys reading, but especially spending time outside hiking and camping with her family.
Jose Serrano, Dining Services Director
Jose has worked in the hospitality industry for 20+ years, as a prep-cook, line cook, sous chef and head chef. He joined the Legacy staff in 2007 and loves to have fun at work. In fact, he does not see his employment at Legacy as work, but as an extension of home. He has been married for 15+ years and has two beautiful children. He enjoys exercising, traveling, watching soccer, dining out and keeping up on El Salvadorian news.
Braxton Hall, Operations Director
Braxton comes to Legacy with over 15 years of facilities, and construction management experience. He has worked in both residential and commercial buildings. However, most of his experience comes from working in healthcare. Braxton has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Governors University and has been through flight school as well as an electrical apprenticeship. Braxton chose Legacy Retirement because he loves taking care of people. Braxton is still raising a family and looks forward to hearing how others have raised theirs. He is married with four amazing children. While growing up, Braxton played several sports but fell in love with soccer. He still plays, and coaches for a competition soccer club. He loves going to movies and listening to music. When Braxton is not working at Legacy, you will most likely find him on the sideline of a soccer field, spending time with his kids, working on classic cars, or traveling with his family.
